Here you will find a wide range of green and healthy places worth respecting and emulating. Not every place shown here will exhibit all of the characteristics of good people habitat; but each will show one of more of the qualities that we seek. In particular, these images show walkable urban and suburban communities both old and new, both small and large; rural places that are untrammeled by poorly planned, sprawling land development; places of all types that add culture and knit communities together; places that work with, rather than against, nature; neighborhoods that are dense enough to provide walkability but that also respect human scale; places that are residential, commercial, and institutional, and natural; places that take advantage of green building and green infrastructure design; places that support transportation choices and reduce environmental impacts; places that respect historic character and legacy; ultimately, places that are both sustainable and lovable.
